1/2 Cent for Flagler Schools

Renewal of the ½ cent sales tax raises about $8 million per year for the next 10 years. That is $80 million that will stay in Flagler County to support our students and future workforce.

The ½ cent sales tax is paid by everyone who purchases items in Flagler County—including both residents and visitors. It is estimated almost 40% of the funds collected will be paid by non-residents, with 100% of the funds remaining in Flagler County. 

Think of it as costing a dime for every $20 purchase (not including sales tax-exempt items such as groceries and prescription drugs). The ½ cent sales tax will cost a family of four with a median income of $56,000 less than $6 per month.

The ½ Cent Sales Tax was originally passed in 2002. The renewal of this referendum continues the same ½ cent sales tax for the next 10 years. The Flagler County sales tax rate will remain at 7%.

A Citizen's Oversight Committee has been created to review the expenditures and report to the public annually. The district is also subject to multiple audits each year.
